Comicon Advent Calendar 2024 Day 2: Surviving The Holiday Elements With ‘Daredevil’ #7

Welcome! Grab a toasty mug of a favorite winter beverage as we enter day 2 of the Comicon Advent Calendar. Instead of delicious treats or miniature figures, our calendar is chock full of holiday centric comics of every type.

Keeping warm is key as the second entry in this calendar countdown follows a particular figure clad all in red, but not the jolly bearded figure one might expect. No, we’re casting a glance at Daredevil (2011) #7 from Mark Waid, Paolo Rivera, Joe Rivera, Javier Rodriguez, and Joe Caramagna.

Following an era that kept Hell’s Kitchen’s favorite defender constantly going through the wringer, Waid and company returned our guy to a far more swashbuckling (yet still Catholic guilt ridden) version. Fending off the reports of his secret identity (leftover from the previous runs), the horned hero tries to find joy while life continues to pile up lemons.

This brings us to our holiday entry. Where Matt Murdock must fend the elements themselves to try and protect a bus full of blind students, in the shadows of the approaching holidays. A tale of survival, tenacity, joy, despair, and heroism wrapped into one tight engaging piece.

Filled with artwork that feels so energetic, lively, and almost elegant in style. It doesn’t shy away from the hardness that the characters face while keeping a firm grip upon the more whimsical nature this era showcased for the title character.
