Dynamite To Publish Omnibus Edition Of Pierce Brown’s ‘Red Rising: The Sons Of Ares’

Red Rising is an expansive series. Thanks to the efforts of author Pierce Brown, it spans a trilogy of novels and a related tetralogy. It even has the room for a three volume comic book prequel, collectively known as Red Rising: Sons of Ares, written by Brown and Rik Hoskin with artists Eli Powell and Kewber Baal. The comics have been out of print for some time, but Dynamite announced Thursday their plans to collect each volume into an omnibus edition.

According to the company, “Red Rising: Sons of Ares tells of a future where humanity has spread across the stars, and a person’s fate is dictated by the color of one’s caste. The Golds rule all – but what happens when one of these elites dares to love a lowly Red? A forbidden romance transforms the future, with alliances shifting against a backdrop of revolution, all leading to the formation of the formidable Sons of Ares and a reshaping of the world of the Rising that is to come.”

At the time the stories were first published, Hoskin said in a statement, “Like the books, ours is a fast-moving story set right across the vast canvas of the freshly colonized solar system. We’re exploring the effects that the inflexible regime has on an individual who’s a key figure from the books, looking at the limits of humanity in a dehumanizing system. For me, that’s the key to the books — the very human characters striving against a system geared to beating them down. It’s harsh, cruel, unfair and — occasionally — uplifting.”

Brown added, “It’s a dream come true to bring the world of Red Rising to comics, and a real pleasure Jedi mind-melding with Rik in the writing process.”

The 432-page tome will be available in both paperback and hardcover. Beyond the three books of the Sons of Ares tale, the collected edition will also feature character and environmental design material, a cover gallery, and a cover by artist Toby Cypress.

Red Rising: Sons of Ares Omnibus is due out in March.
