Gift Guide For Gamers 2024: WizKids’ ‘Young Gold Dragon’ Miniature

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

There is this really fun cartoon that was old when I was young. It was about a reindeer with a red nose who befriended an elf and a prospector. They had wild adventures in an attempt to learn about themselves.

The trio eventually saved a gift giving Winter holiday whose figurehead was an overly voyeuristic omniscient bearded man. One of the songs from this childhood classic was titled “Silver and Gold” and was sung by Burl Ives.

I bring it up because one of my favorite minis from the past few years, and the newest entry in my 2024 Gift Guide For Gamers is the Young Gold Dragon from WizKids.

For starters, this little friend was a convention exclusive. Somehow it is still available on the WizKids site. For that reason alone, if you have the $40 to spend I would head over to the link above and grab one before they are gone for good.

I love the fact it sounds like the name of a rapper every time I say it,  and it looks so freaking cool. The metallic paint on this works so well, the pile of loot it sits upon is detailed and styled in a way that makes sense and does not just feel like a lump of shaped plastic. I love chromatic dragons. I collect Gold Dragon minis based purely on this little guy.

The mini easily captures the most iconic of the metallic dragons in a way that feels fitting and really brings some dynamic energy to your gaming table. What’s more, aside from being a seriously rad mini to drop at your weekly Dungeons & Dragons game, it’s also a collectors’ piece, perfect for play or shelf appeal.

Regardless of whether you are grabbing a gift for a D&D fan or snagging one of these whiskered wise dragons for yourself, this miniature is pure gold. Yeah I said that. So go score one or two before they are gone!

Until next time, I would replace the bearded fat man with this young gold dragon in a millisecond if I was in charge of making those choices for holiday mascots.
