Mark Spears Adds To Dynamite’s ‘ThunderCats’ #12 With A New Cover Of Mumm-Ra

by Erik Amaya

The Mark Spears New Year’s Eve Fest continues.

Earlier today, we learned the artist has painted a phenomenal cover for next month’s SilverHawks #1. But the artist will continue to contribute to Dynamite’s January comics with a newly revealed cover for ThunderCats #12. As seen above, it also a gorgeous painting. This time, though, a villain takes the focus as Spears depicts Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living with the same almost-photographic flair he utilized in his portrait of Quicksilver for SilverHawks. But the color palette, pose, and even framing are markedly different. His open mouth also suggest the end of the character’s transformation from a grey corpse into his swole form.

Inside the issue, writer Declan Shalvey and artist Drew Moss continue their current storyline as the fight between the ‘Cats and Mumm-Ra reaches a new fevered pitch. It all begins in this month’s issue #11, in which as WilyKat and WilyKit finally admit they know the location of the villain’s Black Pyramid. Lion-O, venturing to the edifice, learns about the mystery on its walls. The stakes have never been higher as the battle for Third Earth continues. Will the Ancient Spirits of Evil continue to offer Mumm-Ra the might to face his opponents or will they leave his decayed form at their mercy?

Anyone interested in obtaining a copy of ThunderCats #12 with the Spears cover should head to your local comic shop and request it using the code NOV247224. It will also be available as a foil cover (code NOV247227) and as a virgin foil cover (NOV247228). The issue itself arrives in shops in January.
