Dynamite Offers A Sneak Peak At “The Long Night” In ‘Vampirella’ #1

Just about everyone faces a long night in their lives, be it from work, a sick family member, a tough diagnosis, or a moral quandary. For Vampirella, a long night is something all-together strange and unexpected.
Nonetheless, it is what she is going to experience in “The Long Night” by writer Christopher Priest and artist Ergün Gündüz for the upcoming Vampirella #1. Dynamite sent along some of Gündüz’s work to prove just how different this tale will be.
Following the events of Vampirella/Dracula: Unholy, Year One, and Rage, Vampi is finally a mother. But the reunion with her son is marred by the onset of severe postpartum depression. In the pages below, Priest and Gündüz depict a relatively common experience rarely seen in the genre comic book format. Despite advocacy and any number of television shows shining a light on postpartum, it is still widely misunderstood. And for Vampi, it is unlikely anything she’s ever known before.
But will it lead to the dystopian future Priest has been alluding to through his time with the character? Issue #2 of the series will offer more of this dark future in which Vampirella rules a cyberpunk future. Meanwhile, as previously revealed, Cicero — a man claiming to be her grown up son — arrives to complicate everything as he arranges to meet himself.
It’s all part of the lead-up to Vampirella #700, the landmark issue that counts back all the way to the original 1969 Vampirella #1 and includes this new debut as #676 in the overall cycle. Will the Long Night and the dark future pay off 24 issues from now?
Vampirella #1 is set for release this March.
