Comics Pro 2025: ‘Gargoyles: Demona’ To Spotlight The Fan Favorite Character In Her Own Series

It was only a matter of time before Demona got a comic book series all her own.
Dynamite announced Wednesday their plans for Gargoyles: Demona, the next volume in the ongoing Gargoyles saga. Series creator Greg Weisman continues to orchestrate the tale with his fellow supervising producer and showrunner Frank Paur joining for this leg of the journey. The company promises Demona will be “one of the most pivotal tales in franchise history.”
The story chronicles 1000 years as “Demona and those close to her change through time, and she evolves into the character that fans know from Gargoyles stories set in the more recent era of 1998.” The time period also covers the era during which the Manhattan Clan were frozen as statues, leaving Demona to wander the world. The first issue, though, takes place in 994 as Demona’s quest for vengeance against Canmore begins. Each subsequent issue will flash forward to a key moment in her life during the subsequent millennium. Readers will encounter Angelika, Demona’s other daughter. Per Dynamite, she does not possess the same immortality like her mother, forcing their lives to intertwine in “beautiful and tragic ways.” And as the company asks, “What happens when a mother is frozen by time and is forced to watch her daughter age past her? ” By the end, fans will be able to compare Angelika to Angela and discover the larger tragedy of Demona’s life.
“Demona has a thousand years’ worth of backstory that our other leads flat-out don’t have,” Weisman said in a statement. “That creates a lot of opportunities for storytelling — and we have a monumental story to tell!”
Paur, meanwhile, takes art duties for Demona, with the title being his first ever mainstream interior comics work. Rounding out the team are colorist Robby Bevard and editor Nate Crosby. Supporting the first issue are covers from Paur, Meghan Hetrick, Jae Lee, and Mark Spears.
Gargoyles: Demona #1 is scheduled for release in May with the story getting a preview early that month within the pages of Dynamite’s Gargoyles Free Comic Book Day issue.
