Youth In Revolt: ‘Night Club 2’ #6 Advance Review

Sam has a plan. A “batshit-crazy” one at that. Meanwhile, Risso and Kendra rut like the savage animals they are while Risso’s gang partake in a blood-soaked slaying all around the two vampire lovers. It’s all pretty gruesome stuff. But then again, these are gruesome people.

Like most of the previous issues in this series, there is an energy pervading the narrative and pace, creating a story that never seems to stop. Writer Mark Millar certainly has a way of capturing thise heady days of youth in each of his characters, good or bad. Much like the cast of young characters in Night Club 2 #6, this series is fuelled with energy only the young possess. Live for today and worry about the future tomorrow. And that’s certainly the way Risso lives his life. However, live like that and inevitably the future will catch up with you. 

This same level of kinetic energy can also be attributed to the art wrk and the colours, which colourist Fabiana Mascolo uses here, dramatically switches up colours to better reflect the sudden changes in tone, with red always liberally used to denote anger and the inevitable blood-letting. If I were to think of a cinematic equivalent I would suggest the mad colour palettes of Spring Breakers by director Harmony Korine. It’s got a whole A24 vibe going for it. 

With this being the finale issue in this particular series, the denouement is often just as enthralling as the climax, as we are given some closure but also the promise of new threats to come. It’s all in a day’s… sorry, a night’s work for the Night Club.
