‘Darkwing Duck Omnibus’ Vol. 1 Flaps Terror Into June

It is a treasury that flaps in the night.
Dynamite announced on Thursday plans to release Darkwing Duck Omnibus Vol. 1 — Darkly Dawns The Duck this June. Clocking in at 248 pages, the hardcover volume reprints the original Darkwing Duck comic book miniseries from 1991 and DW’s tales from The Disney Afternoon #1-10. Both the comic and the Disney Afternoon strips prove the character, created by Tad Stones for the Disney Afternoon animated series, is never too far from his four-color roots.
Indeed, Darkwing could be mistaken for a parody of the Batman. He has the mask, a crime-fighter persona based on striking fear, wonderful toys, and a pair of helpers despite insisting on working alone. But that could also describe Inspector Gadget, Doc Savage, The Phantom, The Shadow, and any number of characters. Well, to varying degrees … and in both the cartoon and these comics, Darkwing proves he’s more than just a mystery man pastiche.
Of course, there is also the lighthearted edge as DW learns to be a better hero, friend, and father. Or, at least, he tries.
Darkwing Duck Omnibus Vol. 1 — Darkly Dawns The Duck is scheduled for release on June 25th.
