‘Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’ And Other Highlights Of Nintendo’s Last Switch Direct

Just one week ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo premiered one final Direct showcase for the original Switch console, featuring a handful of major games including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The Direct ran for just over 35 minutes, and while much of it consisted of smaller titles, these were some of the highlights:

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

The long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond made a reappearance, finally giving viewers some gameplay and information about the game’s basic plot. In this new title, Samus visits the plan Viewros, where she’s granted powerful and ancient psychic abilities. Surprisingly, Metroid Prime 4 remains with a nebulous 2025 release.

Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD Remake

After Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake turned into a massive hit, Dragon Quest I&II HD-2D Remake has become a major title for Square-Enix. And after a few months of waiting, we finally have our first real glimpse of the title. This new game continues the story of Erdrick, as both games chronologically take place after Dragon Quest III. Surprisingly, this game is still scheduled for later in 2025.

Shadow Labyrinth

Bandai-Namco’s Shadow Labyrinth, a re-imagining of Pac-Man, also made a reappearance with another look at the gameplay and a bit of information about the world. Players will take on the role of Swordsman No. 8, working with the strange orb PUCK in an attempt to discover the truth of a mysterious planet.  Shadow Labyrinth will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and Steam on July 18th.

Witchbrook

Developer Chucklefish also presented a first look at their next game, Witchbrook, a life simulator set in a magic universe. In the game, players will join Witchbrook College and try to carve out a life for themselves as a witch-in-training. They’ll operate in the city of Mossport, gaining magic powers to help both themselves and the businesses around them.  A multiplayer game that players can get into along with four other friends, Witchbrook looks like another indie hit in the making.

Witchbrook is confirmed to launch on Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam sometime in the winter.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered

One of the surprise shadow-drops during the Direct came from Square-Enix, who launched SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered. The title offers the same gameplay from the original, but with high-definition visuals, a revamped UI, and some new story content directly from series director Akitoshi Kawazu. Players can check out SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and even the iOS App Store and Google Play.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion

One of the last games revealed, Marvel Cosmic Invasion comes from Dotemu and Tribute Games. A classic style beat ’em up, the game looks to be a loose adaptation of the classic Marvel cosmic crossover Annihilation, where a handful of heroes are forced to battle against Annihilus and the powerful Annihilation Wave. The title features Nova, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Phyla-Vell, Captain America, Venom, Storm, and eight other heroes for up to four players to choose from.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is scheduled to launch for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, and Steam in 2025.
