WizKids And ‘Pathfinder’ Are On A Roll With ‘Dice Conquest’ Travel Game
by Anton Kromoff
Welcome to the table,
Between having a new book out and various meetings, I’ve recently been traveling more for conventions. One of the things about convention travel, or travel in general honestly, is the need to shrink down the amount of supplies I take with me for gaming.
Core books shrink down to PDFs on an iPad. Large collections of dice become a handful tucked into one of the pockets of my book bag. Decks of cards get left behind. I’m never excited to see my check back being overweight, and I always leave room in my luggage for found treasures on my travels.

One of the games that has my attention recently comes from my pals at WizKids and Paizo. It’s called Pathfinder Dice Conquest. The game is easy to learn and can be played as a solo offering or with up to three other players. The mechanics are fairly easy. You roll dice and place those dice on various monster cards dealing damage equal to the number rolled. There are six Hero cards that provide you with your in-game avatar, and each has its own abilities that modify the way you roll.

The monster you are facing are split into three decks that are made up of traditional monsters from Pathfinders various bestiaries.

The decks are all capped with a “big bad,” who serves as the boss fight for the deck. This is a cool mechanic because the boss cards all have their own built-in mechanics as well. This makes that encounter actually feel a bit more weighted.
What I dig about the game is that it could serve as a really cool replacement for a combat heavy encounter in a traditional Pathfinder game or just work as a stand in for a TTRPG while you are on the road. I also really enjoy how well the box, tokens, dice, and cards all come together in this really durable display box.

The whole game takes about two minutes to setup and around a half an hour to play. It runs around $20.00 and is available online and at most local game shops. You can grab your own at the link.
Until next time, I really hope they drop some card expansions for this because I would love more monsters and more classes to slot in.
