Breaking: Things From Another World To Shutter Their Online Retail Site

This is a weird one to type out. Let me start with a little story, as I am wont to do.

Years ago, over a decade, maybe two at this point, I saw on a comic blog that there was a contest to win a singed B.P.R.D. comic by Mike Mignola. Having never been one to enter contests, I rolled the dice. If I’m going to be excited about something, it’s a Hellboy Universe book.

Lo and behold, I actually won and the signed book arrived in my mailbox just a few days later. While I was a regular shopper at a local comic spot, the ability to order books and just have them show up was, to someone who had a real bad comic habit at the time, a thing of wonder.

I had not heard of this Things From Another World site before, but now they had my full attention. I would check their comic lists, I would order alternate covers from my favorite Dark Horse titles, anything I could not get in my local shop I was ordering from TFAW.

I fell out of love with comics for a little bit. The world was a rough place, but when I re-read my B.P.R.D. books I was reminded why I love the sequential storytelling. My local shop had long closed and I wanted to get floppies and lucky for me, my editor Brendan Allen (Hey buddy, I see and appreciate you) was like “Hey man, you should order books from TFAW. I used to write for them back in the day.”

So I did, and the flow of floppies returned to my life … That is, until now.

An email just dropped into my inbox with some really sad news.

As of April 30th, 2025, TFAW.com will be shutting down. The TFAW.com Team was kind enough to pass along that they would “like to sincerely thank” all of us for our continued support. The email stated that “It’s been a pleasure serving the comic community for over 25 years.”

Brendan quipped, “That’s what happens when you let me leave. 10 years later, BANG! You have to shut down the site.”

He processes sadness with humor, but I know he, myself, and a slew of other people are sad about the end of this digital legacy.

On the bright side, the physical stores located in Milwaukie, OR, Beaverton, OR, and Universal CityWalk, CA will remain open. If you are close to them, you can still go in to the brick and mortar stores to grab books and cool collectibles.

Some important facts to consider about this announcement:

• As of now, TFAW will start to remove future pre-orders that will be impacted by this site closure.
• April 9th, 2025 will be the last subscription and pre-order processing day. Any pending pre-orders received will be processed this day, regardless of your shipping frequency. They will allow you to remove any pre-orders from your account regardless of the date they were added if you do not want this last shipment. • April 21st, 2025, will be the last day for In-Stock orders on the site so they can ensure all items will be shipped by April 30th, 2025. You will be able to access your account up until that date.
• On April 30th, 2025, the site will go dark.

It’s a weird day in comics, but the world as been kind of a weird place for a few months now, probably longer if I really think about it.
