The 2000 AD Talent Search Returns To Thought Bubble This November – Your Chance To Get Your First Professional Work

The annual Writer and Artist Talent Search for 2000 AD returns to Thought Bubble this year, with the winners getting paid professional work in the pages of 2000 AD.

Thought Bubble is one of the big two comic festivals in the UK, alongside the Lakes International Comics Festival. Taking place in Harrogate UK over the weekend of 15-16 November, it’s a huge celebration of comics and a wonderful experience that we’d heartily recommend.

For many years now, 2000 AD have been running a writers and artists talent search, one that leads to getting your first professional (and paid) gig at the comic. It’s the only such talent search in all of comics, open to all, as long as you’ve not been published as a professional by a comic publisher. Previous winners who’ve gone on to huge things include Rory McConville, Laura Bailey, Will Morris, Honor Vincent, Tom Foster, and more. All of whm have gone on to more work at 2000 AD and beyond.

For artists, there’s a published script from 2000 AD writer James Peaty called ‘Face Shopping‘ to download and draw. Then take your pages to the 2000 AD booth on the Saturday of the festival and take part in a portfolio review from the editors. If you’re lucky enough to be shortlisted, you’ll be headed to the Artist Talent Search Panel on Sunday with the winner decided by a panel of esteemed judges.

If you’re an aspiring writer, you need to prepare a two-minute pitch for a Future Shock story, the five-page, twist in the tale staple of 2000 AD for decades. Just register on the Saturday and head to the Writer Talent Search Panel on Sunday where as many entrants as possible will have to present their pitch live to the judges.
