Does The Recent ‘Ironheart’ Trailer Suggest A Fusion Of Technology And Mysticism?
by Erik Amaya
Disney released another trailer for the upcoming Ironheart event series and we can’t help but notice an interesting wrinkle in a preview doing its best to better establish Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) as more of a character. Take a look for yourself:
Notice the Doctor Strange-esque auras and sigils around the 40 second mark? That is an interesting wrinkle if Riri can only get her armor working by using the mystic arts. The series was filmed two years ago — around the time Secret Invasion‘s production proved to Marvel Studios that TV is made the way it is for a reason — and at the time, rumors abounded that Mephisto would make his debut in this series. We’d be really surprised if that happens, but consider for a moment the way Doctor Doom uses both technology and mysticism in Marvel comic books. Also, The Hood (Anthony Ramos) is a mystical character in the comics and, presumably, will remain so as he teams up with Riri to finish her latest iteration of the power armor. Could it all be leading to Doom and, maybe, her contribution to the wrap-up of The Multiverse Saga?
While the saga has not been as engaging as The Infinity Saga, we’re still invested in how it plays out in the next few years and how it wraps up. We’re also interested to see how Ironheart, a series that also reportedly suffered production issues, turns out now that its moment has finally arrived. Will behind-the-scenes dramas overshadow what makes it to the screen or will it prove to be a more solid installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Time will tell, of course, but until then, it is fun to speculate.
Ironheart debuts on June 24th.
