‘Lost In Space,’ ‘America Gigolo,’ And Stephen King Horror Lead Arrow Video’s September 4K And Blu-ray Lineup

Summer may be coming to an end in September, but boutique label Arrow Video has a slate of physical media releases sure to keep the season alive, including indie horror, neon streets in the disco era, Oscar winners slumming it in blockbuster space, and a rare Japanese crime epic. As always, keep your eye out for some long-awaited 4K debuts.

First up in September is 1998’s largely forgotten Lost in Space, one of the many ’90s would-be blockbusters based on a classic TV series, making its debut on 4K UHD. A family of nerds — including William Hurt, Mimi Rogers, Heather Graham, and Lacey Chabert — team with a hotshot pilot played by Matt LeBlanc to face off against future Oscar winner Gary Oldman somewhere in the uncharted cosmos. Lost in Space received negative reviews and had a disappointing box office run upon release, but perhaps its renaissance will begin here. The 4K disc, available in both the UK and US, features two commentaries, new interviews, deleted scenes, bloopers, archival extras, an illustrated booklet, and more.

Grab your barf bags; Arrow is bringing the stomach-churning gore of “The Raft” to 4K. The 1987 anthology horror sequel Creepshow 2 — which features two mediocre tales and one brilliantly disturbing one in “The Raft” — was shepherded by horror icons George A. Romero and Stephen King, but doesn’t touch the gruesome fun of the 1982 original. Sporting a brand new 4K restoration, the UK and US release includes a commentary by director Michael Gornick, interviews with Romero and makeup maestro Tom Savini, and a booklet featuring the comic adaptation of the unfilmed segment “Pinfall” by artist Jason Mayoh.

Director Lucky McKee’s (May) little-seen The Woods is next up on Blu-ray in the UK only. Released in 2006, the film takes a feminist angle on atmospheric folk horror and stars Agnes Bruckner, Patricia Clarkson, Bruce Campbell, and Rachel Nichols. The UK-only release includes a new audio commentary from McKee, behind-the-scenes footage, new interviews with McKee and Bruckner, a reversible sleeve and a collectors’ booklet.

Up next is the UK only release of Paul Schrader‘s 1980 slick neo-noir American Gigolo in a limited 4K UHD release. Starring an impossibly handsome Richard Gere, the Los Angeles-set crime drama also features Lauren Hutton, Héctor Elizondo, and Bill Duke. The new 4K remaster comes with a double-sided poster, postcards, and an illustrated booklet.

Next up is a real rarity — the 1977 Japanese crime drama Proof of the Man, making its home video debut outside of Japan in a brand new 4K restoration on Blu-ray. Directed by Junya Sato (The Bullet Train, Manhunt), Proof of the Man depicts a murder mystery set against the backdrop of the US occupation of Japan following WWII. Starring Yūsaku Matsuda, Toshiro Mifune, and George Kennedy. Available both in the UK and US.

Finally, September brings us Deadstream on Blu-ray. The 2022 found footage comedy-horror from husband and wife writing-directing team of Vanessa and Joseph Winter. Social media influencer Shawn Ruddy (Joseph Winter) livestreams a night alone in a haunted house known as “Death Manor.” Unsurprisingly, he’s not alone after all.  The UK-only Blu-ray includes six featurettes, a short film by the Winters, deleted scenes, and a new intro to the film by the directors.

And don’t miss Arrow’s August selection, including such American icons as John Wayne, Michael Mann, and Leatherface. Their July line-up features Sylvester Stallone, Lucio Fulci, Narc, and some other Stuff.
