SDCC 2025: Zod Is Coming On The Road To ‘Action Comics’ #1100

DC Comics has labeled the present time as the ‘Summer of Superman’. The obvious reason is the recent release of the first DC Universe film Superman. But there is a lot more happening with the Man of Steel on the comics end as well. He currently leads three main books for the publisher including Superman written by Joshua Williamson, Action Comics from Mark Waid and Skylar Partridge, and Superman Unlimited from Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque.
During San Diego Comic-Con 2025, DC Comics teased what is to come for Superman as we begin the march towards Action Comics #1100. Next year, the three previously mentioned titles will be playing in the same sandbox related to the same things.
Williamson teased a big Superman villain that we haven’t seen in a while. However, he couldn’t hold the secret in and stated “Zod is coming” to much applause. He then might have overshared by also saying that “Zod might already be there.” DC as a whole have big plans for Zod and he will be a major force in 2026.
Shortly afterwards, Waid stated Superman is “so lonely. He’s so lonely. He needs friends. He needs lots of friends.” Will the younger Clark Kent in Action Comics become involved with other superheroes? What could the writers cryptic clues mean, especially when it was mentioned that “we will get to that in the future.”
Regardless of what happens to Superman in the future of comics, he will play a significant role moving forward, even in a year where there is no movie to draw upon that synergistic effect.
