MagicCon: Atlanta 2025 — A First Look At ‘Lorwyn Eclipsed’

Back in March, I was thrilled to tell you all that Dungeons & Dragons X Magic: The Gathering was taking us back to Lorwyn and its dark reflection, Shadowmoor. The first adventure into Lorwyn and Shadowmoor was almost 18 years ago. Thanks to a rad panel at MagicCon: Atlanta, we now have more insight into a set I’m going to do my darndest to collect in its entirety when it releases in January 2026.
Let’s get into it…
In Lorwyn Eclipsed, not only are we returning to one of Magic: The Gathering‘s most beloved settings, but we are also getting a bit of lore for the setting that expands beyond the card game and into other aspects of the tabletop space. It’s a Dungeons & Dragons offering set in the well-storied world.
I love that this is the lore for this set. The exploration of the world of light and dark through the lens of player characters in the D&D space feels like the perfect way to not only capture the tone and themes of this very fairytale setting. It also gives us a perspective that is not as heavy-handed as reality-hopping godlings or other things of the like.
We will be getting the D&D content titled Lorwyn: First Light on November 18th, 2025. This will be a setting supplement available only on D&D Beyond. This release will help you build Lorwyn-themed characters and run a campaign within the world setting.
There is so much about this set to be excited for. We are also going to be getting themed decks for Draft Night. This set will have three phases. With the first phase, Lorwyn Eclipsed, two new products will be introduced to the MTG lineup. These will be 60-card themed decks that will serve as ready-to-play standard decks, perfect for getting new people to the table, and honestly just rad to me because I love a theme!
The first two are going to be Angels and Pirates themed, and then two more will come with the next phase, Secrets of Strixhaven, and two more with the third phase, Reality Fracture. As someone who has run a rat deck for as long as there were enough rat cards to have four of each, a handful of Dark Ritual, and a few Pestilences, I can tell you themes are a thing that makes me excited about the game.
For collectors and those who like alternative art, we have tons to be excited about in this set as well. There is a new art treatment called Fable Frame that is going to give some cards a classic storybook look. As of now, I believe there are 10 uncommon, 26 rare, and 14 mythic rare fable frame cards planned. These can be found in both non-foil and traditional foil in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.
There is also set to be a Serialized Borderless Bitterbloom Bearer, Featuring Art by Rebecca Guay, easily one of the most well-suited artists for the fae world of Lorwyn. This double rainbow foil serialized Borderless Bitterbloom Bearer features artwork by Rebecca Guay, bringing her ever-iconic style to Magic on these individually numbered cards. Bitterbloom Bearer also has a main set version and a showcase fable frame version, letting you add whatever version of the card you prefer to your deck.
This version of Bitterbloom Bearer appears only in Lorwyn Eclipsed Collector Boosters. Serialized versions of the card can appear in collector boosters of any language, but the card will always be in English. Serialized cards are mechanically identical to their non-serialized counterparts, just in case you may be wondering.
There are also some rad new lands for those who love to collect MTG land cards. These borderless, reversible shock lands that have one side representing the warm, inviting, Lorwyn and the other side representing the dark, shadowy Shadowmoore. These cards are mechanically identical to their counterparts in the default Magic frame. There are 5 rare shock lands in Lorwyn Eclipsed, each of which has a main set version and a borderless reversible version. You can find borderless reversible shock lands in both non-foil and traditional foil in play boosters and collector boosters.
I’m so stoked to see what comes from this set because it feels like the creatures and lore is going to be unique in the landscape of other lore and offering sin both the MTG and D&D space but also. I know this sounds like a total paradox, is going to fit perfectly into the multiverse in a way that will hopefully spawn another D&D book, WizKids minis, and more!
