TGS 2025: Xbox And The PC Gaming Show Bring The Surprises

The Tokyo Game Show was jam-packed with so many games that viewers likely missed some unless they were glued to their screens. On Sunday, there was even a new PC Gaming Show conference to add more new titles to look out for, though games at every level rounded out the conference.

There weren’t a ton of things to talk about from Xbox’s usual game showcase at TGS, but they did sneak in an announcement of Forza Horizon 6. A follow-up to the critically acclaimed Forza Horizon 5, this latest installment takes players to Japan, bringing it to life with the same attention to detail that’s made the franchise one of the most popular racing game series around.

The actual trailer leaves a lot to be desired, but we do know they’re planning to add changing seasons and respect Japanese car culture as much as possible. The game’s next appearance will be early 2026, which probably means the usual Xbox Developer Direct.

Konami appeared with a new trailer for Suikoden Star Leap entitled “HQ Functions”, which delves into all the different home base elements present in the game. Fans can expect the classic functions like Blacksmith and Rune improvements, but they’ve also added new ones like bounty hunting, fishing, and more.

As a long-time Suikoden fan, Star Leap makes me feel like the JRPG scene is the healthiest it’s been in a very long time.

Speaking of a healthy JRPG scene, Parasite Eve is one of the most beloved horror JRPGs to never find its way back to modern gaming. So developer IceSitruuna has decided to create their own version of it, entitled Parasite Mutant. The new game focuses on Nova, a Psionic agent sent on a mission to an abandoned island city, where she’ll battle countless horrifying enemies.

Parasite Mutant definitely apes the style of Parasite Eve, and it’s trying to grab as many fans of late 1990s PS1 games as possible. Its Active-Time Chain battle system is specifically said to be analogous to the active-time battle from the ’90s, while they’ve even added special filters to make the game feel like its from that decade. Launching for PlayStation 5 and Steam in 2026, hopefully this game is great and it inspires Square to finally do something about Parasite Eve.

Giddy Goat Games teams up with Humble Games for their upcoming 3D platformer, Billie Bust Up. This title focuses on a young goat named Billie trying to discover the truth about her father. Inspired by animated movies of old, the game is also a musical, even adding a sing-along mode for those who want to become part of the show.

It always feels like there aren’t nearly enough 3D platformers, and certainly not enough great ones. Hopefully, Billie Bust Up can join the ranks of the latter when it launches on Steam, though no release date has been mentioned.

During the PC Gaming Show, Riyo Games and Humble Games released a trailer for their RPG, Threads of Time that looks simply stunning. True to its name, the title appears to take players across multiple eras, ranging from the ancient past to the distant future, as they try to rebuild the Order of the Time Knights.

While retro RPGs have become fairly popular lately, few look quite as good as Threads of Time. It’s actually shocking a game this good-looking didn’t get a spot at Xbox or Sony’s showcases. Still, given it currently lacks a release date, there’s plenty of time for a showcase at a larger stage later.

Developer Invercity Game Works announced their horror-action game, Project Retrograde: The Becoming, for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Set in 1995, players take on the role of a bounty hunter who has been bonded with the parasite known as L.U.C.A. and tries to use their powers to save the world.

It’s hard not to look at this trailer and wonder when some of these newer studios will stop being so blatant with their inspirations. It feels like Resident Evil mixed with Alan Wake and John Wick. The gaming industry always has rip-offs like these, but usually they pull from one game instead of absorbing every successful game in the genre to create the perfect experience. Still, it’s possible the game could be fun if not ground-breaking.

Speaking of horror games, Serafini Productions and Wired Productions announced BrokenLore: Don’t Lie at the PC Gaming Show.  This new title centers around Junko, a young woman struggling to retain a fragile grip on reality while stuck inside her apartment. There’s no release date currently, but it’s launching for Xbox Series, Steam, and PlayStation 5.

Nine Dots Studio’s Outward was one of the more challenging survival RPGs ever made, and it looks like they’re not backing down from that premise with Outward 2. The new game places players in the role of an ordinary person, trying to achieve extraordinary goals.

At a time where so many games are focused on making the player feel as powerful as possible, a game that instead centers around immersion is a bold choice. Hopefully, it’s a choice that pays off again when Outward 2 launches on Steam in summer 2026.
