The ‘Rocky Horror Show Video Game’ Does It Again

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

It’s astounding…

As of Halloween, FreakZone Games and Bit Bot Media’s Rocky Horror Show side-scrolling video game has launched on the PlayStation Store.

I showed the trailer to my favorite person in the world, and even as someone who does not play video games on the regular, she was excited and declared “That looks fun!” multiple times.

It’s a banner week for Rocky Horror fans because not only did I get a chance to check out another amazing live performance with the Creatures of the Naro over at the Naro Theater, but Bit Bot Media launched a Kickstarter campaign for The Bride of Rocky Horror. It will be the first-ever officially licensed original Rocky Horror graphic novel from an all-star cast of creators, including writer Magdalene Visaggio, artist Noemi Vettori, and cover artist Soo Lee.

The updated version of The Rocky Horror Show Video Game, based on Richard O’Brien’s cult classic, will include improved cut scenes and gameplay, bug fixes, PlayStation Trophies, a “New Game Plus” campaign — which unlocks after beating the main game — audience callouts, and other surprises.

Designed and developed by Sam Beddoes of FreakZone Games and released on Steam in 2024, The Rocky Horror Show Video Game recreates scenes and dialogue from the original stage play, allowing players to step into the shoes of Brad, Janet, and Dr. Scott. Each level is meticulously designed to capture the essence of the original sets in a nostalgic 8-bit format. Gameplay combines challenging-but-rewarding platforming and light combat elements, such as picking up and throwing objects at enemies and other experiments from Dr. Frank N Furter’s laboratory.

I’m sure before the week is over, we are going to try our hand at this one!

Until next time, it’s just a jump to the left….
