Planet Comicon Kansas City has been surprisingly close to the chest with their guest announcements for March 27th-29th, 2026 at the Kansas City Convention Center. Yesterday, they announced Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner. The original Captain Kirk will be in attendance on Friday and Saturday, with photo-ops starting at $155.

I did say “starting at,” because next year marks the 60th anniversary of the original series. How much do you want to bet there will be a couple more stars from the franchise announced in coming weeks? Shatner is a big pull, sure, but there’s a lot more than $155 a pop to be made for group photo ops with Shatner and George Takei*, Shatner and Walter Koenig, or all three at once.
If neither of the other two surviving “original” Star Trek cast are available, there are literally thousands of cast members from later entries in the franchise, many of which make regular convention appearances. Sixty years is a big deal, and I would be very surprised if Shatner, as iconic as he is, shows up alone.
Tickets for the convention are available at this link, and photo ops for the announced guests can be purchased right here.
*Provided, of course, that Shatner and Takei can occupy the same convention hall without violence.
