Comicon’s Best Anime Of 2025

by Tito W. James

As we approach a new year, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the amazing animation we’ve received in 2025. And has become Comicon custom, out own Tito W. James takes a look at what he considered to be the best of anime in the year that was. Take a look below:

Virgin Punk: A Clockwork Girl

Umezu Yasuomi  (Kite [1998]) teamed up with Studio Shaft (Magical Girl Madoka) to create an original series — Virgin Punk: A Clockwork Girl. Just like in Kite, we follow a tough-as-nails Lolita who completes mercenary contracts with a brutal signature weapon. This time, our heroine uses a combat knife that can rapidly expand into a Frisbee-buzzsaw device to reap the heads of her enemies. Stellar animation combined with an evocative soundtrack results in pure cinematic gold. Virgin Punk: A Clockwork Girl is an anime masterpiece sure to inspire creative iconoclasts for generations to come.

Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26

Tatsuki Fujimoto is the Millennial manga wunderkind responsible for hits like Chainsaw Man and Look Back. Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 is an adaptation of the manga one-shots he created during his formative years. The anthology captures the unique strangeness of each story and packs an emotional punch. If you’re a fan of unusual and avant garde anime, Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 is a must watch.

Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc

Continuing on the topic of Fujimoto, we were also treated to Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc. The film has been universally embraced by fans of the manga and anime enthusiasts. The film is heartwarming, heartbreaking, and mind-blowing. Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc has more spectacular action than most superhero films!

SANDA

From Itagaki Paru (Beastars) and anime studio Science Saru comes a new rom-com battle shonen titled Sanda. Set in a near-future Japan, where the birthrate is extremely low and children are overprotected, a young boy named Sanda gains the ability to turn into Santa Claus, giving young people hope again. Sanda came out of left field and was surprisingly captivating. The anime juggles multiple tones and bizarre characters in a way we haven’t seen since Dan Da Dan.

Dan Da Dan Season 2

And speaking of Dan Da Dan, the fan-favorite series returns for an incredible second season and a theatrical film. The anime series co-directors, Fuga Yamashiro and Abel Gongora, are doing a great job taking creative liberties with the pacing and presentation while also remaining true to the source material. Each character is spot on and Dan Da Dan has the makings of a contemporary classic. Studio Science Saru has done a superb job at adapting this singular series with style.

I Was Reincarnated As The 7th Prince Season 2

I didn’t include I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince in my Best of 2024 list because there were a lot of isekai anime. However, I think 7th Prince is a consistently fun and entertaining show more anime fans should check out. 7th Prince is unapologetically a power fantasy but it’s a well done power fantasy. 7th Prince has epic fights, a harem of cute girls, and an overpowered protagonist you can’t help but love. If a show brings a big dumb grin to your face with every episode, then it’s doing its job right.
