“Welcome To Die!” — Magneto Actor To Join The Uncanny Experience

by Austin Gorton

Giant-Size Productions just kicked off the new year with an announcement that actor Matthew Waterson, the voice actor of Magneto in X-Men ’97, will be a featured guest at this fall’s Uncanny Experience convention.

While X-Men: The Animated Series and its sequel series, X-Men ’97, draw heavily on the looks and stories of the 1990s comics for inspiration, in its first season, X-Men ’97 reached a little further back for one of its core plotlines. With the professor recuperating in space and believed dead to the world, the X-Men’s former archenemy stepped in to take his place as the head Xavier’s School and guiding hand of the X-Men, an adaptation of a tranche of stories from the late ’80s which saw Magneto assume a similar role in the absence of Professor X, joining the X-Men and teaching the teenage New Mutants, as well as participating in a trial for his past actions while wearing the “Big M” costume.

Now, Waterson, will be meeting fans at the X-Men fan convention in Minneapolis this Fall. Waterson took over the role from original X-Men: The Animated Series Magneto actor David Hemblen (who passed away in 2020), abd has also lent his voice talents to movies and series just as Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Castlevania, along with a wide range of video games, from Fallout 4 to Star Wars: Jedi Survivor to Doom Eternal.

The Uncanny Experience, now in its fourth year, will be held on September 12th-13th, 2026 at its usual venue, the historic Minneapolis Club in downtown Minneapolis. Waterson will be available for autographs, photo-ops and participating in panels.
