Back in March of 2025, I was thrilled to tell you all that Dungeons & Dragons X Magic: The Gathering was taking us back to Lorwyn and its dark reflection, Shadowmoor. Back in September, I was stoked to share from MagicCon: Atlanta, first looks at this exciting new set of Magic: The Gathering cards! Today, I’m thrilled to share even more from this brilliant setting that was crafted almost 18 years ago.
Not only do we have that epic video from my talented pals over at Magic: The Gathering and the dreammakers of the Jim Henson Company, but we also have a look at a ton of new cards from this upcoming set.
Much like the launch video, the cards of Lorwyn Eclipsed do a brilliant job of showcasing the duality that makes the setting so special.
In Lorwyn and Shadowmorn, both day and night exist at the same time, and when one crosses over from one to the other, they only retain fractal bits of their memory from the other space. Additionally, there are strange mergings of the planes that result in Dusk Realms, spaces where magic and mythos seem to merge and bleed together in new ways.
The landscapes in this set are some of the most mesmerizing because they capture the magical wonder of this setting. There is enough familiarity with fantasy and natural laws that things make sense, but the setting feels untethered, unanchored, fantastical in every way.
The inhabitants of this landscape are also strange creatures, full of wonder and worry that come with being entities of both the dark and the light. This whole set feels like something akin to The Dark Crystal or Labyrinth, so it only stands to reason that this Jim Henson production perfectly aligns with the tone of the set.
Duality is always at the core of the set, it seems, but I am of a singular mind that this is one of the most breathtaking sets of Magic: The Gathering we have seen to date. I, for one, can’t wait until I have packs in hand to collect and build decks in this strange and wonderful space.
