First Look Photo: Sophie Turner As Lara Croft In Upcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ TV Series

by Erik Amaya

Sophie Turner may be the Queen in the North, but she’s adding a new bona fide to her geeky portfolio: Lara Croft. And Amazon is more than happy to share her dedication to the part in a first look photo for their upcoming Tomb Raider TV series.

As cosplayers have known for decades, getting Lara’s costume right isn’t the challenge — although the feature films seem to miss the mark on that front — it’s the attitude. And while we will still have to wait for the trailer to really judge Turner’s take on the character, she certainly looks the part in the above photo. As some have pointed out, it’s the sunglasses that really complete the picture. We’ll also point out her arms definitely look ready to climb some rocks and swim through forgotten rivers.

Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge serves as co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge. Following Lara’s adventures, it will also feature Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.

It is unclear if the series will adapt the classic game plots or move in its own direction, but it is clear an era of video game TV shows dedicated to a certain fidelity is here. Between this and Fallout, there definitely seems to be a respect for the games and recreating the vibe if not the stories. Hopefully this will continue with the upcoming God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn adaptations.

Tomb Raider, meanwhile, just began filming with a release window to be revealed at a later date. We won’t be surprised, though, if this turns out to be a 2027 show on Prime Video.
