Kickstarting Comics: Sapphic Vampire Noir ‘Sink Your Teeth In’ In From Tunnell & Knight Gives You Something To … Well…
by Tony Thornley
Horror comics are one of the best things in the indie comics world, and they’re even better when they’re a twist on something familiar. With that Lifeline Comics presents Sink Your Teeth In, a sapphic vampire noir from a critically acclaimed queer creative team.

Hitting Kickstarter today, Sink Your Teeth In comes from writer Zoe Tunnell (Blade Maidens, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind) and artist Lauren Knight (Golden Rage), chronicling a horrifying case for one of Chicago’s vampire PI’s. Rounding out the creative team is color artist JP Jordan and letterer Jodie Troutman, with covers from Knight, Emily Schnall, Skyler Patridge, and Vash Taylor. It’s a four issue miniseries that promises to be a as good a time a noir can be.

From the Kickstarter: Chicago is a vampire town. Has been for years. Divided between four rival factions of influential undead, every drop of the city’s lifeblood runs through them. And Corsica Smith barely sees any of it. Having long since fallen from her once-powerful place in the city’s elite, she scrapes by as a bottom-rate private eye.
Decades spent solving petty disputes and catching cheating spouses leaving her trapped in a menial hell. But when her first real mystery in a decade throws her into a web of secrets and death, with her long-absent ex-lover at its center, as captivating as ever, she can’t stop herself from taking the case. Quickly finding themselves on the run and seeking answers, the two former lovers are forced to rely on each other and find out the best-kept secret in vampire society … if they don’t kill each other first.
I got an early look at the first issue, and it’s a lot of fun. Tunnell plays with noir tropes without leaning too far in, and Knight and Jordan create a dark Chicago dripping with atmosphere. Even better, there’s a great twist that turns the standard vampire story on its head.
