Just The Specials: ‘Space Jam’ 30th Anniversary X Pizza Hut Triple Treat Box

Just the Specials is where your old pal Anton tries new, weird, and often unhinged menu items, food offerings, and branded collaborations that find their way onto the plate in front of him. It’s normally a fun time. When I found out Pizza Hut had a Triple Treat Box to celebrate Space Jam‘s 30th anniversary, I said to myself, “Well, that is something I need to look into!”

Pizza Hut says that the Space Jam Triple Treat Box “brings the feast and flavor that wins.​”

They tout that for a limited time, you can purchase this offering that “includes 2 medium 1-topping pizzas. Additional charge for more than 1 pizza topping, Pan & extra cheese. Additional charge for select dessert options & cheese stick upgrade. Product availability (including special packaging), prices & participation vary. Priced higher in some locations, including CA. Taxes, tip & delivery fees not included.”

Wow, that is a mouthful, and I can’t even taste the pizza yet. The long and short of it is that when you purchase this Space Jam Triple Treat Box, you’re buying two medium one-topping pizzas, an order of breadsticks, an order of cinnamon sticks, a cup of marinara sauce, and a cup of icing.

All of this comes in a big red box branded with Space Jam characters to really drive home not only the March Madness Basketball season, but also the basketball game featuring Looney Tunes characters like Bugs Bunny, Tweety Bird, Marvin the Martian, and The Tasmanian Devil, Taz.

For my Space Jam-themed outing, I ordered an “original pan” pizza with pepperoni and a “hand-tossed” pizza with cup pepperoni. While I placed the order through the Pizza Hut website, I was informed by text message that a DoorDash driver would be delivering the pizza.

I was not a huge fan of this because I had purposely avoided DoorDash due to the numerous issues I have had with them. I was concerned my Space Jam-themed meal may be in danger of anything from arriving two hours after it was ordered, to being given to someone else. This would be followed by DoorDash arguing with me that they had given it to me, even though I have photographic evidence from their driver. They delivered my food on someone else’s porch, in someone else’s neighborhood, and then avoided answering texts and phone calls when I tried to let them know that was indeed, not my home they sent me a picture of my food sitting on the ground in front of.

As luck would have it, though, the Space Jam pizza box and its contents arrived safe and sound.

The “original pan” pizza with pepperoni, which I paid an upcharge for, was the top box in the stack, and after eating two slices, I was comforted to know that Pizza Hut had not really changed the way its pizza tasted since the last time I had partaken of it some years or so ago.

Normally, I find myself enjoying a personal pan pizza a few times a year, but anything larger from Pizza Hut is very few and far between, so this was a unique treat for me. The personal pan-pizza love comes from my love of Book-It and getting a tiny pizza as a reward for reading. Those moments I could turn five-star stickers into a treat were some of the brightest moments of my childhood. I still think the reason I was such an advanced reader and am currently sitting in an office full of thousands of books is because of the Pizza Hut personal pan-pizza granted by the Book-It program.

The “hand-tossed” pizza with cup pepperoni was also tasty, but after three slices of pizza, I was feeling the impact of the grease and oil that comes with fast casual pizza dining.

It was very novel to have these two pizzas and a third pizza box full of breadsticks and cinnamon sticks. I ended up eating a few of the cinnamon sticks hours later, as my wife was traveling. I did not feel the need to make dinner, having already eaten quite a bit of pizza for lunch.

I had another slice of the cup pepperoni pizza around 10 pm and then ate the breadsticks for breakfast the next morning, a decision that may not have been the best idea, as I chased them with a Sour Apple Ghost Energy Drink and an Almond Coco Loco Chobani Flip Yogurt.

I was a bit messed up until around lunch time, when I had one more slice of pizza before calling it quits and eating fruits and noodles for the next few meals to balance out my stomach’s distress from the massive amount of cheese, bread, grease, and sauce I had consumed.

Until next time, the verdict is that this was a fun little box. I love the novelty of the packaging. The pizza arrived hot and fresh, and the sticks were solid offerings. It sat heavy on the stomach for me, but this would be a great meal for a basketball watch party… is that a thing? Or a movie night with friends. For sure, not something you want to take on “One On One” (My editor the sports nerd tells me that is a sports term. We have a great team here at Comicon and support each other like that!)
