A Satisfying And Bloody Ending: ‘Marvel Knights: The Punisher’ #4 Review

If anyone could bring a knife to a gun fight and walk out the victor, it’s Frank Castle. And in the concluding issue of Marvel Knights: The Punisher #4, that’s pretty much what goes down as our hero has come to his senses and is ready for revenge. 

Over the past three issues, we’ve seen Castle put through the wringer, and now he’s pisses. But he still maintains a clear head and a focus as he fights on the side of good, with a little help from some friends. And after his torturous travails, the action that goes down in this issue is well-choreographed and paced by writer Jimmy Palmiotti with appropriately gnarly art from Dan Panosian. Who adopts a looser, rougher line to better capture and convey the rough, tough and violent world of The Punisher and the Mexican cartel. 

Of course, if you’re a Punisher fan, this one will be a very satisfying read. With this being the final issue of this four-part series, it’s hardly a spoiler if I mention that this series has a conclusion that delivers the requisite spilling of blood and gory deaths, while also serving up some dark humour (there’s a great joke about weed buried in there) and a fun ending. Well, I say fun. Not so much for bad guy Morrelo. You’ll see if you pick up the issue. 

With Frank Castle free from the influence of the el Zombie drug, but badly scarred, it’s a bold look for this Marvel Knight’s Punisher, but one he wears like a badge of honour. I’ve enjoyed this series and this reiteration of Frank Castle. So, with the promise of his return at the end of the book, I’m intrigued where he’ll end up next.

A bloody, brutal comic book series that kicked ass and took no prisoners.
