‘Coyote Vs. Acme’ Trailer Declares This Is The Film Acme Doesn’t Want You To See
by Erik Amaya
Sometimes, life and art imitate each other simultaneously. As evidence, the new trailer for Coyote Vs. Acme goes out of its way to embrace the controversy around its shelving several years ago as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s complex tax write-off scheme. But it also re-frames it as the act of the Acme Corporation itself. Can self-proclaimed Super Genius Wile E. Coyote and Will Arnett bring the company to some accountability? Check out the trailer and decide for yourself.
Attempts to bring the Looney Tunes spirit to film have always been troubled. Where Space Jam captured the imagination of a certain generation, Looney Tunes: Back in Action failed to connect with a wide audience. And the legacy Space Jam: ended up little more than fodder for YouTube pundits to declare the end of cinema. But with Foghorn Leghorn as an antagonist and John Cena bringing his energy to the Acme side, this might finally capture the anarchic, meta humor of Termite Terrance (the building where the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts were devised) to the screen.
Coyote vs. Acme finally arrives in theaters on August 28th.
