Everyone’s favorite viking and talking witch-head duo are back with Head Lopper 2026. This super-sized first issue reads like a recap episode combined with a season premier. Longtime readers will recognize recurring elements and characters but they’ve been recontextualized within a grander narrative. New readers will slip into the fantasy world of Narschlahn with ease as the Head Lopper’s previous adventures are summarized by none other than Death itself.
Andrew MacLean’s art style has always been influenced by Mike Mignola, and the atmospheric opening to this new arc evoked the mythological storytelling of Mignola’s, Lands Unknown series. That’s not to say this issue is all set-up without payoff. We’re also treated to MacLean’s signature action stylings that perfectly balance clear fight choreography with comedic punchlines.
While Head Lopper is known as an action adventure fantasy there’s also a generous helping of courtly intrigue. Gods and Demigods have their own agenda and reasons to help or harm Norgal and Agatha. Norgal has his kill-list of Demigods to slay and he’s only just getting started. The first issue of Head Lopper 2026 is a refreshing return to an indie comic gem. Whether you’re a longtime reader or just discovering Head Lopper, now is the time to get on board!
