Sega’s ‘Stranger Than Heaven’ To Give Us The Story Of The Yakuza This Winter

After a rather disappointing tease during Xbox’s Partner Preview, SEGA and RGG Studios have finally provided fans with a look at their upcoming Stranger Than Heaven with an extensive thirty minute showcase. Entitled “Xbox Presents: A Special Look at Stranger Than Heaven”, the video not only covers the setting, but also combat, characters, and several unique game mechanics.

Stranger Than Heaven looks to be one of the biggest titles RGG Studio has ever made, promising a chance to explore five different cities across five decades, ranging from Kokura, Fukoka in 1915 to Shinjuku, Tokyo in 1965. Players take control of Makoto Daito, a young boy born in America who flees to Japan to escape racial persecution and hopes of finding a place to belong.

In addition to providing looks at all five different cities, the presentation also includes a sit-down discussion with several members of the game’s cast, ranging from actor/J-Pop singer Yu Shirota, who plays Makoto Daito, to legendary hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg, who plays Orpheus. The musical elements hinted at since the game’s first reveal in 2024 are present as well; Makoto turns out to be a musician who uses the world around him to craft the tunes played by his band as they tour the country.

Surprisingly, despite such an in-depth showcase, RGG Studios promised another look at the game later this year. For now, though, they’ve announced the game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Steam, and the Microsoft Store sometime this Winter. Knowing RGG Studios’ usual release pacing, that likely means January or February.
