Amanda Deibert And Carlo Laura Set Course With Dynamite’s ‘TailSpin’

Captain Baloo’s time is finally here.
After several successful series inspired by Disney Afternoon properties DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, and Gargoyles, Dynamite is turning its focus toward TailSpin. The third of the 1990s Disney cartoons recast The Jungle Book‘s lovable bear as a down-on-his-luck but easy-going airfreight pilot in a world inspired by the romantic era of propeller planes. Joining Baloo in his adventures are the orphaned Kit Cloudkicker (long story), nominal boss Rebecca Cunnigham (another long story), her young daughter Molly, and loyal mechanic Wildcat. Jungle Book character Louie and Shere Khan round at the cast as the proprietor of an offshore watering hole and a dubious businesstiger, respectively. And, of course, their whole town is constantly under threat from sky pirates led by the verbose but dim Don Karnage.
As you might guess, we really like TailSpin at the Comicon.com office.
On Friday, the company announced the comic’s creative team, which includes writer Amanda Deibert, artist Carlo Laura, letterer Jeff Eckleberry. As the series begins, the Higher for Hire team is tasked with bringing Cape Suzette’s newest resident, Skye Ryder, home. But Karnage has reasons to intercept the flight. Now it’s up to Baloo and Kit to evade the pirates and finish their charter. Can they accomplish the task?
“I am so thrilled to be once again teaming up with the incredible Carlo Laura as we get to play in the world of beloved Disney Afternoon cartoons and take things to new heights,” Deibert said in a statement. “Pun very much intended.”
Supporting the debut issue are covers from Laura, Cat Staggs, and art from the Disney vault. Additionally, limited-edition blind bags with “even more rare variants and surprises” will also be available.
TailSpin #1 lands in shops this August.
