Quick Review: ‘Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre’ Is The Most Fun You’ll Have Reading Comics

Sometimes you just need a comic that’s unapologetically fun — and Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre is exactly that! The bizarre story pits Godzilla against the Great Gatsby, Sherlock Holmes, the Time Machinist, and Dracula. Writer/artist Tom Scioli takes us on a ride through a mash-up of literature and pop culture whose wild premise is only matched by its stunning execution.
Scioli’s art perfectly balances vintage aesthetics with purposeful graphic design minimalism. Scioli’s love for Jack Kirby spills onto the page of every fight scene. By committing wholeheartedly to the absurd premise, Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre is wonderfully humorous and unabashedly awesome. I still can’t believe a unique gem like this really exists! So if you’re in the mood for pure escapism you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy.
