Square-Enix Reveals A First Look At ‘Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams’
by Sage Ashford
Square-Enix’s recent Dragon Quest Day wasn’t exactly filled with new announcements, however fans finally received a key update on a Dragon Quest game, though it wasn’t exactly the news they were looking for. Originally called Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, producer Yosuke Saito and director Yuji Horii confirmed development was rebooted. Now, the title Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams, and they even had footage to unveil (as seen above).
Along with the brief trailer, Horii gave a light description of the game: “It’s a story of a young hero who’s beset by strange visions in their sleep. What lies beyond dreams? Surely not a world of darkness, but a bright and exciting future. The game has gone in a different direction to the one we originally announced, but you’re going to love it.”
Considering The Flames of Fate was supposedly going to be a darker, more serious game, Horii’s quote seems to directly confirm that’s done with. Which isn’t to say Dragon Quest can’t still do some darker elements, much like XI did before it.
Hearing that Dragon Quest XII is completely rebooted makes it sounds like it is years off. Still, with no confirmation on when the project rebooted, hopefully we see it sooner rather than later.
