Dynamite Adapts Cassandra Peterson’s Autobiography Into ‘Yours Cruelly: Becoming Elvira’ Graphic Novel

Five years ago, Cassandra Peterson — aka Elvira — published Yours Cruelly: Memoirs of the Mistress of the Dark, an autobiography telling the story of her personal life, experiences in show business, and the creation of her iconic character. It’s release timed with the 40h anniversary of Elvira and marked a new phase in Peterson’s life. As it happens, the book was 15 years in the making, but it took downtime from the COVID-19 lockdown to making it a reality. Now, it’s becoming a graphic novel from Dynamite.
As the company revealed on Thursday, writer David Avallone and artist Mariano Benitez-Chapo bring Peterson’s story to the comic book page with Yours Cruelly: Becoming Elvira. According to the press release, it “delves into her struggles with self-image, relationships, and career in a candid and revealing account of her life. This is the indispensable behind the curtains look at one of the biggest icons of horror and entertainment.”
Indeed, Peterson’s tale is rich, complex, and sometimes troubling. Nevertheless, it is story worth telling and presented in as media mediums as possible.
The 160-page hardcover arrives September 16th.
