SDCC 2026: It’s ‘Archie Vs. The Terminator’ This Fall

Across the timestream, the Terminator has hunted its main adversary, John Connor, his mother Sarah, and even his eventual wife. The machines have sought secondary objectives and even everyday folk who seem far from the war but for the twisted strands of time itself. And now, it is time for Archie Andrews to face the implacable killing machine.
In advance of Comic-Con International: San Diego next week, Dynamite Entertainment — along with Archie Comics and StudioCanal — has announced Archie vs. The Terminator, a five-issue miniseries which sees James Cameron‘s famous fictional creation landing in Riverdale. The story comes courtesy of The Terminator: Metal writer Rory McConville and artists Steven and Lily Butler.
It all begins when Riverdale High accepts a new transfer student, John Connor. But will the Town with Pep ever be same?
“Archie crossovers hold a very special place in comics, so I’m thrilled to be writing the gang’s first (maybe last?!) encounter with The Terminator,” McConville said in a statement. “Enrolling John Connor at Riverdale High felt like the perfect way to bring these two iconic franchises together and I can’t wait for readers to see what we have in store.”
Steven Butler has a long association with Archie Comics going back to his days on their Sonic the Hedgehog title, in which he announced the birth of his daughter, Lily. Now the pair are working on a title featuring Archie together. “When I got the invite to draw the Archie vs. The Terminator miniseries, I was deeply honored and excited at the same time,” Butler said. “I’ve always loved most the Archie stories that put the gang into some sort of overwhelming peril that they had to try to get themselves out of and now this miniseries gives us the opportunity to tell that kind of story I love so much! The icing on the cake is the fact that I get to work with my daughter Lily on this project — what more could a proud dad want?”
Lily Butler added, “This story marks my first time working for Dynamite, and working on a full miniseries … I’m super excited to be working on characters that I’m very familiar with like the Archie crew and other characters that are new to me. I think we’re working up a really cool project and I’m excited for everyone to see!”
Supporting the first issue are covers from Francesco Francavilla, Robert Hack, Björn Barends, and Bill Galvan. There will also be a blind bag option with exclusive limited edition variants.
Archie vs. The Terminator #1 is due out this Fall.
