Review: ‘Is Ted Ok?’ #6 Gives Hopeful Messaging

Summary
The final confrontation occurs between Ted and Noah. However, Ted and his two friends must first escape an out of control airplane. Will things be ok in the end? For that matter, is Ted ok?

10/10Writer, artist, and letterer Dave Chisholm proves himself to be a creative force with this final issue. Meaning Chisholm sticks the landing with this last installment of this amazing tale.
The script is one that has cliches, but Chisholm purposely and expertly subverts quite a few of them. All the main characters get something that changes who they are, and this is including the narcissistic bad guy. Yet, these changes do not mean that all truly grow as individuals. However, to say more about the characterization the writing provides would massively spoil this great ending. What can still be mentioned is that there are important messages within this issue that will hopefully help people of various sorts.
The interiors have one four-panel double-pager that is right before a major moment that is extremely visually stunning. These two pages occur around twenty to thirty pages into the narrative. The moment almost feels and looks like an animation storyboard that is coming to life before one’s eyes; at least this is the case for this reviewer. Still, the rest of the interiors have astounding visuals which combine with the dialogue in a way that massively assists with creating the intense emotional beats of the ending. In this reviewer’s professional and personal opinion, the art and colors of this comic are up there with the movies Akira (1988) and Ghost In The Shell (1995).
When it comes to the lettering, the sizing of each element is just right. Chisholm is able to execute such a great script along with epic visuals that the lettering is only tying the work together. What this means is that the lettering will stand out more to readers after the initial shock of a first reading. At least it will to those wanting to study this comic’s individual elements. So while the lettering does pop, it is also subtly existing.
The cover design is suggestive of a happy ending. However, what the definition of happy is and whether Ted is ok are questions only the interiors can answer.
