Details Of The ‘Fifty Years Of Judge Dredd’ Collection Released

Well, was just a few days ago that 2000 AD announced the special Fifty Years of Judge Dredd collection coming out in February 2027. Well, now we have details of the contents …

Yes, as I will be telling you quite a lot over the next few months in the lead-up to what promises to be somewhat of a bumper 50th anniversary year for 2000 AD.

The first announced of these events/books was Fifty Years of Judge Dredd, the Lawman of the Future who first appeared in 2000 AD Prog 2, all the way back in 1977. Since then, week-in and week-out, 2000 AD has prevailed. And let’s face it, in the comics medium, 50 years of a weekly comic really is something to be celebrated.

Dredd himself has led the line for the weekly 2000 AD ever since that first appearance, a strip capable of dealing with every possible genre of storytelling through the years, and one that’s both developed a long and complicated mythos of Dredd, Mega-City One and the Justice Department and yet still remains a strip that anyone can jump into immediately with just the knowledge that Dredd and his fellow Judges are fascist future cops with the powers of Judge, jury, and offtimes executioner. That immediacy and complexity is what makes Dredd still so very vital and immediate all these years later.

Obviously, there are many, many ways to get into Dredd, whether it’s the Prog, week by week, the many collections, the Essential Judge Dredd Series, or the Judge Dredd Complete Case Files, reprinting every single Dredd story right from the start.

Now there’s another intro for you, this Fifty Years of Judge Dredd collection, a deluxe hardcover out on 11th February 2027, available in standard hardback or 2000 AD webshop-exclusive slipcase editions, with each slipcase individually numbered and showcasing exclusive new artwork by Henry Flint, inspired by Carlos Ezquerra’s original character design sketch.

The 41 Dredd tales in here, the majority of them all one-off tales, none of them more than three episodes long, celebrate the evolution of the man and his world, packed with some of the greatest comic talents of the last 50 years, and will no doubt prove to be a perfect encapsulation of all things Dredd. I’ve said it for many years that, although there’s a great joy to be found in the big, multi-art Dredd mega epic tales, the meat and bones, and some of the very best storytelling, of Dredd comes in the shorter tales, the sort of tales that have built the infrastructure of the man and the world. And so it is here.
