NYCC 2026: Wizards Of The Coast Announce Several New Magic: The Gathering/Marvel Collaborations

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

There is something fulfilling about being in another time zone and having someone text you about announcements in the pop-culture gaming space. Is it a humble brag? Sure, but does that diminish the pride that I have lived my life and moved through the landscape in such a way that fans, creators, and industry experts reach out to me when new things are announced to share in what they know is going to be the actual joy I meet them with? It sure as heck does not!

So with that pure joy in mind, let’s dig into this new Magic: The Gathering news straight out of this year’s New York Comic Con 2026.

My pals at Wizards of the Coast have announced several new Magic: The Gathering/Marvel collaborations at New York Comic Con 2026 during a special panel.

In collaboration with Marvel, Marvel: Darkhold Destiny is the first Universes Beyond set created around an original story and setting. The panel also unveiled additional Marvel collaborations coming in 2026, including the Secret Lair Countdown Kit: Marvel’s History of Heroes and Doomsdrop.

For the first time ever, the teams at Marvel and Magic have collaborated to create a brand-new storyline set in the Marvel Universe. By taking the core elements of Magic: The Gathering, the team thoughtfully and strategically expressed those design intentions through the Marvel Universe. The narrative unfolds across nearly 30 dimensions and is centered around four main characters, including Doctor Strange, Thor, Hela, and Dormammu.

Additionally, a new comic book will be released that showcases this groundbreaking new story. The comic’s first chapter will release digitally on Marvel’s new digital comics platform, and the physical edition releases the week of Darkhold Destiny’s launch, on April 7, 2027.

The Secret Lair Countdown Kit: Marvel’s History of Heroes is set to be a collection of 30 cards that bring the storied past of Marvel to life and will be available only on Secret Lair starting November 2.

The release features illustrations crafted by over 30 artists celebrating iconic moments from Marvel’s comic history, including moments like the transformation of the Fantastic Four in space via cosmic rays, the first appearance of Iron Man with Ho Yinsen, and Jean Grey’s transformation into the fiery Phoenix.

The special limited-quantity Secret Lair Countdown Kit: Marvel’s History of Heroes goes on sale November 2, 2026, at 9 a.m. PT for $199.99.

There was also a very cool sneak peek at the upcoming Doomsdrop. Each drop, inspired by the comics, will predominantly feature Doctor Doom, although fans should expect other special guests from the Marvel Universe as well.

Apparently, there is also going to be a free MTG Dr. Doom card opening weekend if you go see Avengers: Doomsday in Infinity Vision at Regal Theaters. So if you want to go, reserve those tickets right now…now would be the time!
