Marc Maron In Talks To Join Joker

Joker may get a blast of comedy from actual funny man Marc Maron.
Variety reports the comedian, podcaster and GLOW co-star is in negotiations to join the cast of Warner Bros. Pictures standalone Joker. Set outside the shared narrative universe of Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1984, it will explore the background of the nameless ne’er-do-well destined to become the Clown Prince of Crime. Joaquin Phoenix will play the title character while actors like Frances Conroy, Zazie Beetz and Robert DeNiro are also in talks to join the film in various roles. Maron’s part is said to be an agent working on behalf of DeNiro’s talk show host; a person with a key role to play in Phoenix’s transformation into the Joker.
According to Phoenix, the film will be more of a character study than a summer action picture. The reported $50 million budget supports that claim.
The film will be directed by Todd Phillips of The Hangover fame from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver. It is slated to go into production fairly soon, but has not been scheduled for release.
