Nintendo Seemingly Releasing Switch Successor In 2024?

After almost seven years as one of the most successful consoles of all time, it seems like it’s potentially time to say goodbye to the Nintendo Switch. That’s from a story at VideoGamesChronicle which claims that development kits for the Switch’s successor are already in the hands of certain partner studios.

According to this rumor, Nintendo is once again looking to have a console that will have a portable mode for people. Not much else is clear from the rumor, other than that it will continue to use cartridge slots for physical media. Other crucial information–like whether the console will be backwards compatible–is still unclear. While most rumors usually come from the depths of 4Chan or Reddit, this one’s also been confirmed by Eurogamer, adding to its legitimacy.

Of course, the Nintendo Switch is fairly ancient hardware at this point so a new system isn’t terribly surprising. What is surprising is potentially the system will be launching in the second half of 2024, making it almost certainly a Fall release. This is in complete contrast to the original Switch, which launched March 2017 after a conference about the system that January.  If the rest of that pattern holds, Nintendo will likely remain quiet about their Switch successor until well into 2024, meaning it’s entirely possible they won’t say anything about the system until next summer at the earliest.

If nothing else though it means we’re not far from another Xenoblade announcement.
