Elkhorn Is Ready For An Adventure With WizKids And NECA

I wear my love for the classic D&D characters on my sleeve. I mean that literally. I have Warduke, The Evil Fighter tattooed on my arm. Aside from the permanent body modification showcasing the helmed warrior ready to strike, I have a multitude of merch, ranging from his original 1983 Advanced Dungeons & Dragons figure to the new NECA Ultimate 7″ Warduke figure that came out earlier this year. Something about the mismatched armor, hidden face, and demon skull shield really just captures what makes D&D memorable to me.

Now the talented team at NECA has announced their next addition to their Dungeons & Dragons line-up. Behold Elkhorn, the Good Dwarf Fighter and yes, that is a freaking heartstone!

Straight out of the 1984 adventure Quest for the Heartstone by Michael L. Gray, this Elkorn figure plays perfect homage to the classic AD&D figure of yesteryear while elevating the character in every way from the tip of his torch flame to his leather-strapped adventuring boots.

The tooling on this figure is dazzling showcasing just how detailed and present the makers over at NECA are. Elkhorn is geared up as one of the queens chosen should be, and ready to seek out the fabled heartstone, which was buried deep in the monster-haunted Mountains of Ice.

XL1 ( that’s the code associated with the adventure for those who did not play AD&D ) was a memorable adventure. I’m one of the harshest critics when it comes to these adventures and characters, because they are the original ambassadors of the hobby-linking kids who played with action figures to the wider world of the Forgotten Realms and beyond, with iconic and recognizable characters that looked as if they had leapt off the Saturday morning cartoon screen.

NECA has elevated these classic figures in such a way, though, that while my love for the originals will never fade, these new renditions are truly works of art that will stand the test of time for generations to come. This Elkhorn, like the other offerings from this series, has so many amazing features. Included are an alternate head, interchangeable hands, an opening backpack, bearded axe, battle axe, sword, shield, war hammer, war pick, dagger, Gutbuster jug, torch, crystals, and the legendary and much sought after Heartstone itself!

The boxes on these figures are also super cool, as they have a swing-open front cover that displays the figure in its plastic packaging but can close up and look great front-facing or side by side on a shelf for those who want to leave their little adventures mint in the box.
