A Huntress Quests To Slay An Aswang — N.P. Alfaro’s ‘Kontra: Against Evil’ #1 Kickstarter

by Brendan M. Allen

With 22 days remaining in the Kickstarter campaign, Kontra: Against Evil #1 has fully funded. The Filipino horror book from writer NP Alfaro, artists Borg Sinaban and Azam Raharjo, and letterer Micah Myers explores the lore of the aswang, vampire ghouls that terrorize the Islas Filipinas.

A pale moon rises over Iruña and the aswang’s hunt begins. On this night, a girl’s peaceful life will end, and a huntress will be born.

The bloodthirsty aswang emerges from its lair for a midnight feast. On one fateful night, a young girl named Nava is forced onto a violent path where she will confront the aswang once more to settle a bloody score.

Under the pale moonlight they will meet again, and Nava must face the terror to survive

This is the story of Navarra, a monster huntress, and her quest to slay an aswang.

Kontra: Against Evil is the debut issue of a planned six issue run. This installment will focus on Nava’s origin story.

The goal of this campaign is to fund the first edition prints of Kontra: Against Evil #1. The 34 page first issue is already complete, so the print order will be placed immediately after the campaign ends. Digital backers will get their reader copies by April.

Backer Rewards are pretty straightforward in this one. The first reward kicks in at the $5 level for a digital copy of the book. Physical copies are available for a $10 pledge. Various bundles of physical, digital, and signed copies are available at tiers that cap out at $17.
