The End Is Nigh With BOOM! Studios’ ‘Abbott: 1979’ #5 First Look
by Scott Redmond
As many battles do, the final battle for Elena Abbott is one between her light and the forces of darkness. March sees the release of Abbott: 1979 #5, the final issue of the mini-series that caps off the Hugo-nominated Abbott trilogy.
Ahead of the series concluding chapter, BOOM! Studios have released a first look at the issue from writer Saladin Ahmed, artist Sami Kivelä, colorist Dan Jackson, and letterer Jim Campbell. It finds the lead character Elena trying to save Detroit from the Umbra one last time. She has to harness her light powers like never before while making a potentially breaking sacrifice along the way.
This series wraps up the story that began with 2018’s Abbott and continued with 2020’s Abbott: 1973.
Abbott: 1979 #5 comes with a Taj Francis (Wonder Woman) main cover and a variant from Vincenzo Riccardi (Ghostlore). The issue arrives on March 13, followed by the Abbott: 1979 soft-cover collection on July 10 in comic shops and July 16 in bookstores.
