‘The Fairly OddParents’ Gets Rebooted With New Characters And A Fresh Art Style
by Tito W. James
The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is the newest incarnation of the long-running animated sitcom about a kid with fairy godparents. The original series ran from 2001-2006 and spawned several TV movies and video game spin-offs. Many viewers felt that the series declined in quality after its sixth season and the inclusion of Cosmo and Wanda having a baby. The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish appears to be a “back to basics” approach by focusing on a new kid. Hopefully this series can capture the “magic” for a new generation.
According to press materials, the new series centers on ten-year-old Hazel Wells, who moves to Dimmadelphia because of her father’s new job. “On top of being in an unfamiliar environment, it’s the first time she’s been without her brother, Antony, who’s just left for college, leaving her lonely and unsure of herself. All that changes when the pink-and-green-haired neighbors next door reveal that they are no ordinary neighbors…they’re Cosmo and Wanda, fairy godparents! And they’re coming out of retirement to make all of Hazel’s wishes come true.”
The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish premieres Monday, May 20 at 4:30pm ET/PT on Nickelodeon.
