Jumping On — Series Premieres, One-Shots, And New Story Arcs Kicking Off On June 12, 2024

One of the most frustrating things about finding new comics to read and enjoy is finding a good jumping on point. It can be confusing and disheartening to pick up a single issue from the middle of an arc without having the context of the previous chapters.

With that in mind, here are a few New Story Arcs, Series Premieres, and One-Shots that caught my eye for this upcoming New Comic Book Day, Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Honorable samurai and rabbit out of time Usagi Yojimbo has been stuck in New York City since one of Donatello’s experiments with a transdimensional portal went awry.  While he has grown to appreciate The City, his Turtle friends, and most of all, pizza, he still wants to return to his own dimension more than anything. 

When Donatello finally finds a way for Usagi to do just that, the rabbit warrior invites the gang to visit his home… where they find a dangerous new enemy.

Godzilla: Skate or Die #1, IDW Publishing

Australian skater punks versus Varan and the King of the Monsters in Louie Joyce’s dual writing and art debut. 

Four years ago, four best friends and die-hard skaters found the perfect location for a DIY skatepark. After months of hard work, they created the world’s sickest spot that they could enjoy for the rest of their lives… That is, until the ferocious Varan appeared in the middle of central Australia and started making a beeline for their beloved park.

Wicked Trinity #1, Archie Comics

More grown up Archie hits the shelves this week when Sabrina’s magical nemesis Amber Nightstone and her sidekicks arrive,  intent on becoming the most powerful witches in the world. Isolated from so many around them, the three have formed a coven based on their individual needs for vengeance and true freedom. But when there is some dissent among the ranks, their small coven is threatened to be obliterated from within.
