TV Review: ‘My Adventures With Superman’ Season 2 Has A Slow But Promising Start

by Frank Martin

After a very strong first season, the second year of My Adventures With Superman was highly anticipated. The series’ initial episodes excelled at creating a down-to-Earth and relatable Superman (Jack Quaid) as he tried to navigate a new city with new friends while also using his powers. Countless adaptations have struggled with this basic concept, but this show did so by leaning heavily into anime-inspired flair. The first half of Season 2 didn’t rise to that level of quality, but there are still signs that it can get there by the time it ends.

The primary focus is on Clark and Lois’s (Alice Lee) struggling relationship while Clark manages being Superman and Lois deals with a very aspiring journalism career. They continue to unravel the mysteries behind Task Force X now that Amanda Waller (Debra Wilson) is in charge. To make matters worse, Lex Luthor’s (Max Mittelman) star is rising as he aligns himself with Waller.

All in all, the season bounces around a lot and doesn’t have a whole lot of cohesion. From the very beginning of the series, there was a clear story that was being told and built upon with every episode. The same thing can’t be said for the second season, although there are hints that more is to come. Lex Luthor’s involvement is gradually growing to the point that he’s going to be a serious threat later. Also, the inclusion of a very refreshing kind of Supergirl (Kiana Madeira) is going to breathe a lot of life into the show. It’s tough judging an entire season of television halfway through, but fans should be confident that it is setting up all the dominoes to end on a very strong note.
