SDCC 2024: Declan Shalvey And Luke Sparrow To Guide The Future, Past, And Present Of ‘The Terminator’ At Dynamite

The Terminator returns to target all of time.

Dynamite announced on Tuesday that ThunderCats writer Declan Shalvey and Star Trek artist Luke Sparrow will collaborate on a new Terminator this October — 40 years after the original film arrived in theaters. But in Skynet’s future world, the plan to end the resistance continues ever if the schemes to kill Sarah and John Connor failed. Now, the machines cast a wider net in the past that may hamper the success of humanity in the late stage of the war. Can the Terminators eliminate key figures before the Connors assemble them into a fighting force?

Even more alarming: the machines will head further into the past and farther into the world to eliminate whole bloodlines of those who threaten Skynet’s dominance in the future. The strategy may seem more obscure, but the scope means time may finally be on Skynet’s side.

“The approach of this series is new situations, new dilemmas in each issue. Mostly done-in-one stories, but as the series progresses there may be some recognizable faces,” Shalvey said in a statement. “We’re going for a more stripped-down, pulpy approach to the book. As innovative and groundbreaking as the first film was, it was also grounded in its environment, being noirish and moody as hell. An unstoppable force is coming to kill you — that’s the element of the franchise I want to lean into.”

Supporting the first issue will be covers from Shalvey, Edwin Galmon, Joshua “Sway” Swaby, and David Cousens. An additional “Icon Cover” presenting Alex Ross early work on the Terminator: The Burning Earth will also be available.
