Firestar Shines Bright On Artgerm’s ‘West Coast Avengers’ #1 Cover
by Tony Thornley
Marvel is putting a lot behind the relaunch of West Coast Avengers this November. In the latest variant cover reveal, one character literally becomes a star.
Angelica Jones is notable as one of Marvel’s characters who’s seen multimedia success, having co-starred in Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends. Unfortunately that hasn’t always translated into a starring role on the page, with Firestar often staying in character limbo for years at a time.

West Coast Avengers writer Gerry Duggan did a lot of help with that, giving Firestar a revitalized profile in the pages of his X-Men run. Now those plotlines and character growth will continue into Duggan and Danny Kim’s Avengers spin-off. Angelica has been the focus of several of the issue’s variant covers, including the newly revealed variant from Stanley ‘Artgerm’ Lau, one of the most popular cover artists in the industry today.
The series will follow a team of Avengers stalwarts in the city of angels. Iron Man, War Machine, Spider-Woman and Firestar will have their work cut out for them. That’s especially true when they’re joined by the team’s fifth member- the reformed villain and one of their deadliest enemies, Ultron!
