‘Down Among The Dead’ Will Soon Be Setting Sail On Kickstarter

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

TTRPG publisher Free League has always seemed to push into the strange weird spaces that only TTRPG games can go. Death in Space, Mörk Borg, and Vaesen are just a few of their titles that absolutely delight me. When I heard that Down Among the Dead was officially picked up by Free League, I have to admit, a smile came to my face.

Down Among the Dead is an explanation of the fun and frantic rules-light TTRPG, Pirate Borg, a book that made my Top Gifts For Gamers list last holiday season.

This new expansion features three full-length adventurers, along with a slew of new player and storyteller options. There will also be a ton of gaming accessories ranging from a new GM screen, dice, naval combat tokens, hex mats that are ocean-themed, and a Devil’s Luck d2 coin. You can check out more at the video below…

I’m also a fan of the limited edition cover, as it really feels like a found object in this strange salty world of waves and wonder.

For those new to Pirate Borg, the game takes a ton of inspiration from the high age of piracy and swirls in a good bit of fantasy and fright to create a gloomy undead adventure setting that’s perfect for a single-night session or a year-long campaign set across the alt-history dark Caribbean.

Using the Mörk Borg rules, it’s a fairly easy game to pick up and play and focuses mainly on the player-to-player role-playing experience and ship-to-ship naval combat all packed with skeletal undead and weirdness that feels right at home in the Mörk Borg style of game.

The Kickstarter campaign is also doing one of those things I love, where they offer an early backer rewards. In this case, that comes in the form of the Lost Soul patch available to anyone who backs in the first 48 hours.

You can check out the whole thing over at this link, and expect more from me on Down Among the Dead and other Free League offerings very soon!

Until next time, I love how much the pirate vibes are coming back again. As someone who works on a large ocean-based IP, it’s always cool to see these games hitting the market.
