Quentin Tarantino History, Jennifer Lopez Weirdness, And Sam Raimi Horror Highlight Arrow Video’s January Releases

Arrow Video is kicking off the upcoming new year with some modern classics and some unsung genre titles, from the likes of Quentin Tarantino, Sam Raimi, and William Shatner. The label’s January slate of physical releases includes several 4K UHD debuts.

First up for release in the UK and US is Oscar-winning WWII thriller Inglourious Basterds on limited edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray. Writer-director Tarantino revisits and revises the frantic final days of the European theater with an international all-star cast that includes Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Mélanie Laurent, Diane Kruger, and Christoph Waltz. This new home video release contains tons of special features, limited edition packaging, a 60-page book, double-sided poster, a beermat, art cards, strudel recipe card, and a reversible sleeve.

2000’s The Gift, a largely overlooked thriller from Sam Raimi, is up next with a brand new 4K remaster. It stars Cate Blanchett, Greg Kinnear, Katie Holmes, Hilary Swank, and Keanu Reeves in an against-type villain performance. The limited edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray’s special features includes new commentaries and interviews, an illustrated booklet, a reversible sleeve, and a double-sided poster, and is available only in the UK.

Another 2000 thriller, Tarsem Singh’s creepy The Cell, will make its debut on limited edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray in January. The Cell finds a detective (Jennifer Lopez) literally entering the surreal mind of a serial killer, only to discover she might not be able to get out with her sanity intact. It co-stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Vince Vaughn, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Available in the UK and the US, the 2-disc release includes brand new 4K restorations of both the theatrical cut and the director’s cut, which runs two gory minutes longer. Special features include new and archive commentaries, deleted scenes, an illustrated book, and a reversible sleeve.

Rampo Noir is a Japanese horror anthology featuring four shorts based on the stories of Edogawa Rampo, and starring Tadanobu Asano and Ryuhei Matsuda. The limited edition Blu-ray — available in the UK and the US  — includes new interviews, an audio commentary, a feature-length making-of, a collector’s booklet, and a reversible sleeve.

Things get really weird with the release of Leslie Stevens’ 1966 black-and-white creeper Incubus, starring a young William Shatner (before Star Trek) as a solider who encounters a demon seductress. And, oh yeah, the dialogue is entirely in the constructed universal language of Esperanto. The limited UK and US release of the 4K UHD and Blu-ray disc includes hours of bonus features, a reversible sleeve, and an illustrated booklet.

Finally in January, there’s also a UK-only Blu-ray release of Bryan Singer‘s 1995 neo-noir film The Usual Suspects, with special features including an audio commentary, deleted scenes, featurettes, and trailers.
