Gift Guide For Gamers 2024: WizKids’ ‘Pathfinder Battles Fearsome Forces’ Minis

I’ve always liked the concept of the advent calendar. Mostly, I enjoyed the aspect of getting a small piece of candy, or bit of story. In the case of this year, it’s a plastic dinosaur every day.

When my pals at WizKids sent me over a box of Pathfinder Battles: Fearsome Forces minis, my first thought was “This would make a rad advent calendar and a perfect entry into my 2024 Gift Guide for Gamers.”

The Pathfinder Battles: Fearsome Forces miniatures set has an incredible collection of mini options to harrow your table with. There are some rad kholos, those are the Pathfinder gnolls, swarms of undead, serpent folk, orcs, and more. The sculpts on these minis are fantastic. The Nosferatu Overlord and the Serpentfolk Granitescale are some of my favorite minis they have put out in recent years.

There are 18 figures in this set. What’s cool is this set comes in the single monster per blind booster box, offered at a lower price point than the ‘four in a box’ Icons of the Realms we are used to getting from WizKids.

I love those four in one packs and you are never going to hear me say something unkind about the Icons of the Realm boxes, but there is something very charming about being able to grab a bunch of single smaller boxes and know each one has a mini in it.

You can totally buy a whole box if you want, and then open them like the aforementioned Advent Calendar, or just crack them open all at once. There is some play here. A creative storyteller could set up a game in a haunted swamp, moldering crypt, or abandoned stronghold that could showcase all of these creatures as encounters, and just randomly pull a box and deploy the encounter so the party and the storyteller are dealing with it on the fly.
